The Valparaiso Noon Kiwanis Club has 200 members who are business owners, educators, dentists, retirees, government employees, lawyers, pastors, housewives, architects, and more. We support the local community by donating all profits back to those in need. In any given year, we return nearly $50,000.00 to the community. We are involved with kids, the elderly, the handicapped, families in need of help, or those in need of temporary assistance.  Please help us serve our community by eating our pancakes!

Lunch is a full turkey buffet for only $10.  All attending veterans will receive special recognition at the event.

Spouses, family, and friends are also welcome.  

The Valparaiso Noon Kiwanis Club will conduct our 21^st annual Kiwanis Hot Air BalloonFest at the Porter County Fairgrounds in Valparaiso, Indiana this September.  Our 90 year old Kiwanis Club of 200 members has been using funds generated from the BalloonFest to support sponsored youth clubs (Key, Builders, K-kids, and AKtion) and other club projects that benefit the children of our community and of the world.  We are anxiously looking forward to this year’s balloon launches during the evenings of September 9 and 10.  Over 20 colorful, enormous hot air balloons are expected at this year’s event.  Nothing is more beautiful than to see these multicolored balloons ascend into the sky at dusk.  This year, if wind conditions permit, we will do an exciting balloon fly-in.

Another popular event of the BalloonFest is the Night Glow.  Following each evening’s launch the balloons return to the festival to conduct a Night Glow.  At this event, the balloons are tethered to the ground and they use their propane heaters to light up the multicolored balloons synchronized to music.  It is one of the most fascinating sites imaginable.  Tethered balloon rides will be available throughout the event at a nominal cost.

Food vendors will be present to entice the taste buds, musical entertainment is also on the agenda, there are amusements for kids, tethered Hot Air Balloon rides, and our Key Clubs participate with a face painting booth and by selling pins and tee shirts.  Entrance fees are $10 per carload.  It is a family-friendly, smoke-free event for the young and old.

We encourage you to nominate a special volunteer by March 18. All nominees receive special recognition at our annual Volunteer of the Year program, this year on June 1. One volunteer is selected to receive a $500 donation to his/her nominating agency. Nominees and representatives from nominating agencies should be available to attend the Volunteer of the Year program at Strongbow Inn as our guests (1 volunteer and 1 agency representative) on June 1, at 11:45 am.

Nominations to this year’s program are limited to the first 12 agencies or institutions that return their nomination forms as directed. In addition, this year we have made an extra effort to make this invitation to many more non-profit agencies in the Greater Valparaiso area, so please nominate early.

The Kiwanis Club of Valparaiso is once again sponsoring the Purdue Varsity Glee Club in concert on Sunday afternoon, January 30, 2011, at 2:00 pm in the Valparaiso High School Auditorium.

Advanced sale tickets are available from Kiwanis members as well as from:

• Valparaiso Festival and Events office, 162 W. Lincolnway
• Valparaiso YMCA, 1201 Cumberland Crossing Dr., Valparaiso

Advanced sale tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for students.  All tickets at the door are $15.  Children under 5 are free.  Tickets may be purchased for gifts.  Profits from the concert will be used to benefit non-profit agencies and student scholarships in the Greater Valparaiso area.  In the past, the Kiwanis Club of Valparaiso has supported a variety youth leadership activities, ReBuilding Together, Special Olympics, Valparaiso Family YMCA, and many other agencies and activities focused on children.

With integrity, passion, unparalleled showmanship and attention to every detail, the men of the Purdue Varsity Glee Club have proudly served as ambassadors of the university with honor and dignity for more than 115 years.  This dynamic musical troupe employs a versatile repertoire including gospel, vocal jazz, swing, contemporary hits, romantic ballads, classical choral selections, barbershop, folk melodies, patriotic standards, familiar opera choruses, country and novelty tunes, and utilizes small groups and outstanding soloists to further enhance each show.

Several members of the Purdue Varsity Glee Club have their roots in NW Indiana including:

William E. Griffel is the Director of Purdue Musical Organizations at Purdue University including the Purdue Varsity Glee Club.  As a performer, William has sung with many of the world’s finest concert and operatic programs. He has performed with the Lyric Opera of Chicago, the Civic Opera of Chicago, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Grant Park Symphony Orchestra, Chatauqua Opera, Indianapolis Opera, Cathedral Singers, Oriana Singers, Blue Skies Vocal Jazz Ensemble and the Caroling Party.
